LONDON - Nokia Various methods are used to cope with fierce competition in the smartphone market. Latest, the Finnish mobile phone vendor reportedly slashed the price of some smartphones to 15 percent for the European market.
Nokia's Smartphone Price is decreased Up to 15% to survive in competive market
Phones that have cut the price it is a premium model N8, C7 and C6 multimedia phone intended for business people. Similarly, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (06/07/2011).
Meanwhile, several other models are also experiencing price cuts on a smaller scale. "There is no huge price reduction for each model. But this step has not done a very long time," said one source who worked at one of the European telecom operators.
Nokia spokesman who declined to give his name refused to disclose the new price of each handset. He simply claims that there is nothing strange in that decision. "This is just an ordinary business deal," he said.
According to Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi, this policy is not too surprising considering the company has indicated it will act more aggressively in terms of pricing in order to prevent users switching to competitors.
"Nokia should have slashed the price of long products including N8, C7 and C6, and shipped its new smartphone at a price not less 'aggressive'," said Milanesi.
Based on data from Gartner, Nokia lost its share in the smartphone market in the first quarter, from 39 percent at the beginning of the year to 25.5 percent. Given the popularity of Android phones continues to climb, many analysts predict even Nokia will continue to lose share in the smartphone market until the end of the year.
