IDC officially reported that Q1 2011 Nokia's Mobile Market Still Rule

NEW YORK - The IDC survey just released a number of mobile phone shipments worldwide, in the first quarter of this year 2011. According to IDC, Nokia still holds the top position with the most sales, despite continued to lose market that must be willingly given to Samsung.

Meanwhile, the use of smartphones in the world just keeps growing, with a growth rate reached 79.7 during the first uartal 2011. Growth was mainly driven by a combination of new phone releases, wide availability at lower prices, and ongoing demand.

Note reported that Nokia, the current leader in the smartphone market, may face the problem of maintaining the number one choice because they are starting to switch from Windows operating system Symbian Phone.

Nokia master the market share of smart phones up to 3.24 percent, with total shipments of smart phones reached 24 million more. Nokia being followed Apple's smartphone market share reached 18.7 percent, with total shipments up to 18.7 million.

Overall, smartphone vendor has sent more than 99.6 million units in Q1 of 2011 almost doubled compared with 55.4 million units in Q1 2010.

"Conditions in the smartphone market to create a perfect storm for sustainable growth of smartphones," said Ramon Llamas, IDC senior research analyst, as reported by TG Daily, Monday (05/09/2011).

"Finally, users continue to seek greater utility from their mobile phones outside sounds, and smartphones have become the ideal solution as a whole. It adds up to continued growth of smartphones throughout the year," he added.

The high demand also means the market will remain highly competitive and fragmented.

"The increase in Android as a leading mobile operating system has allowed some suppliers to gain share quickly," said by Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

"In addition, a relatively new country adopted the global smartphone, it means there is plenty of room for multiple suppliers for comfortable living side by side, at least for the short term," he said.
