iCloud, becomes Indecision of Apple in the Era of Post PC

Apple can be proud to be a trendsetter in many ways and tend to challenge the generally accepted marketing laws by issuing a phenomenal product. However, for this time, Apple must submit to the growing trend in the world, namely cloud computing.

No doubt, the model of content distribution on the internet that are promoted ahead of Google and Amazon have to enter the Apple as well. iCloud which was introduced on Monday (06/06/2011) in the opening of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2011 in San Francisco, USA, a response to its main opponents in the Internet content business.

Not just for music services such merely heralded earlier. Services can also be used iCloud Apple device users to manage all types of content including documents and photographs. The idea is to provide a service that allows consumers to access the content from a variety of devices made by Apple quickly.

Previously, there was a digital hub, a device for storing content and can be accessed wirelessly from several devices at once. But in the future it will switch to a more flexible cloud can be accessed from anywhere over the internet access available.

In the post-PC era, the dependence of the User to the applications and content on the device is getting smaller. Especially when every user uses more than one device. Cloud became effective solution to overcome dependence on each type of device users.

"ICloud save your own content in the cloud and wirelessly send it to all the devices you have. Automatically he will upload, store, and sends it to all kinds of devices," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, in front of the developers in attendance.

For example, when users buy e-books on my iBook, bought tracks on iTunes, take pictures, record video, or download the application, everything will be backup in the cloud and can be directly accessed from the iPhone, iPad, and the user's iPod. So also synchronize your calendar, email, and a list of contacts up to 5 GB capacity. Synchronization is also to documents from Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Apple also provides a photo stream that serves all the photos from the iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac users are stored, but only limited to 30 days from the content uploaded.

All cloud-based services are free and no advertising inserts. However, if still not enough, Apple provides iTunes Match which scans all your iTunes playlists in your library users and keep all his files in the cloud in the form of 256 Kbps AAC files without DRM. However, for iTunes Match bears cost 25 U.S. dollars per year. Remember, there's no music or video streaming service by Apple today. New users can download to various devices without having to pay again.

However, at least, users of Apple products no longer have to pay 99 dollars just for MobileMe service that synchronizes all messages. Steve Jobs officially announced the termination of MobileMe service which has been completely restructured with iCloud. Customers who already pay can still use it until June 30, 2012 and that would shift will receive a refund.

iCloud may provide a new experience that allows fans to enjoy Apple's contents. However, to become a strong challenger to Amazon's and Google's services we wait. There is still doubt Apple is the totality of the cloud.
