NEW YORK - Even though Research In Motion (RIM) has not been confirmed, but reports say the BlackBerry maker plans to take bids for thousands of Nortel's wireless technology patents.
Prior to RIM, earlier this month, Google offers USD900 million to buy about 6,000 of Nortel patents. RIM will have to bid at least up to USD926 million, according to auction rules.
If BlackBerry maker or another player entering the bidding process, auctions will take up to 20 June. Inventories Nortel patent has been estimated to be worth approximately $ 1 billion.
Launched by Reuters on Tuesday (04/19/2011), RIM's plan is not without reason, a Canadian company that wants to close out of the bidding process for Nortel's wireless business in 2009, did not want Google to get the patents and patent applications.
Because if Nortel technology patented by RIM BlackBerry, the RIM will get the rights to license this technology to secure royalties and market influence.
Google's bid to patent Nortel is considered important as the giant Internet search engine into other areas, including telecommunications, as a device that runs on the Android operating system that quickly captured the market from Apple, RIM, Nokia and Microsoft.
